This video presents Salvador Dabot, a robot that draws artistic portraits of its human subjects. Inverse kinematics is utilized to control the robot's drawing arm. The robot determines how the portrait will be drawn by: 1) extracting the contours of the face from its captured images; 2) converting the contours into paths; 3) adding several layers of drawing patterns to reproduce the shades of gray; and 4) filling the different areas recursively one at a time. The robot is also programmed to move and talk like a human portraitist while working on its art.
