This video shows a six-legged robot called RiSE, which can climb vertical terrains like trees, walls, and fences. RiSE's feet can be equipped with special claws or sticky material to enable it to climb different surfaces. The robot is also able to adapt to the curvature of the surface it is climbing. At 0.25 m long and a weight of about 2 kg., RiSE can travel at 0.3 m/sec. The DARPA provides the funding for this robot, which is being further developed by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley, Stanford, and Lewis and Clark University.
