Micro-Electro-Mechanical
Systems, or MEMS, is a new
technology that marries mechanical and
electronic systems at
microscopic levels, hence
the name. MEMS are used in
accelerometers, digital
micromirrors, and more.
Accelerometers are
electronic devices that
measure acceleration,
popular applications of
which include automobile
crash sensors and wireless
gaming controls.
This video from the MEMS
Industry Group provides an
introduction to MEMS. Shown
were examples of MEMS
applications in
manufacturing, automotive, life
sciences, and consumer
electronics.
